Apps and your workspace
Understand what apps add and how they fit into a shared workspace.
An app adds a set of records and tools for a particular kind of work. Your workspace provides the foundations around it: people, permissions, views, chat, calendar, agents, and settings. You can start with the app you need today and keep using those foundations as your workspace grows.
What an app adds
- Objects and fields. An app installs its own named record types, fields, default views, and record layouts. Those records use the shared data tools.
- Specialized work. Some apps add workflows beyond ordinary record editing. Inventory Tracking, for example, adds counts, purchase orders, sales orders, and stock movements.
- Organization. Installing an app can add its associated department and specialist agent. Agent availability still depends on the workspace configuration and the agent’s permissions.
- Connections. Related records can connect work across objects. Installing an app does not automatically make every record visible to every member.
Choose an app
- During workspace setup, choose the app you want to use first, or choose a blank workspace.
- Read what the app includes. Think about the records your team needs and the work it will carry out.
- Review the workspace’s plan and app allowance before adding more apps. If an additional charge is required, review and confirm it in the app flow.
- After activation, use the app’s section in the sidebar to open its records and available tools.
- Add or import your own records, then invite the people who need access and assign suitable permissions.
The Add apps screen is available at /apps within your workspace, but the current sidebar does not always show an Add apps shortcut. Managing apps requires workspace billing permission. New workspace setup installs empty app objects; a demo can contain sample data.
Plan capacity is shared
Apps use the same workspace data capacity. Adding an app does not reset your record or custom-field usage, or create a separate allowance for each app. The Plans and Billing screens show the terms that apply to your workspace, including app slots and any additional app charges.
This documentation does not quote a price for your workspace. Read the live plan or checkout screen before agreeing to a charge.
Deactivate or restore an app
Deactivating an app hides its app objects and removes access to its app-specific surfaces. It preserves the underlying records, so reactivating the app can restore access to the existing data. The app’s department remains part of the workspace organization.
Use the app’s Deactivate action and read the confirmation before continuing. Deactivation is different from deleting records or deleting the workspace. It can also affect active-app billing.
If activation reports that an object name is already in use, check the existing custom object before proceeding. Matte does not silently replace a custom object with an app-managed one.
Find the right guide
Use the shared platform guides for tables, imports, chat, calendar, roles, or settings. Use an app guide when you need to understand the rules of an app-specific workflow.
The current app documentation covers Inventory Tracking. Its stock quantities, purchase orders, counts, and forecasts are described inside that app section; they are not assumed to be part of every workspace.
